Brexit: Business Leader FAQs

If Brexit has still left you a little confused don't worry, you're not alone. Here's something we've made to help clear up the bits you need to know.

It's been five years of a tonne of news headlines, comedy sketches, drunken discussions, and family feistiness. Almost everything at some point or another has contradicted something else. And, let's face it, we've been left feeling like it's as clear as mud.

This resource will tackle five of the most frequently asked Brexit questions Business Leaders have, in our standard, easy to digest, and made to remember fashion. This is also a little teaser of a style of content that we're going to be making more of to sit alongside our animated elearning. We don't want to say too much now, but will just leave that as a teaser!

What is the withdrawal agreement?

The Withdrawal Agreement, also known as the Brexit Agreement, Brexit Withdrawal Agreement and, officially, the Agreement on the Withdrawal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community, is a treaty between the European Union (EU), European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom), and the United Kingdom (UK).

What are the new rules for hiring EU nationals?

Free movement in the EU ended when the UK withdrew from the European Union. That means there is now a points-based immigration system for hiring the majority of citizens from the EU.

Will my business be affected by Brexit?

The short answer is ‘Yes, almost certainly’. Even if you don’t trade with the EU in your organisation, you might employ EU nationals, have suppliers who import to or export from the EU, attend events in Europe or have customers there. That’s not to mention economic impacts like currency value, reduced investment and a possible recession.

What are the 'rules of origin' for traders?

The treaty includes an agreement between the UK and EU on 100% tariff liberalisation. This means there will be no tariffs or quotas on the movement of goods produced between the UK and the EU.

How will Brexit impact work-related travel in the EU?

If you’re travelling for business, there are additional considerations to make. Business travel includes attending meetings and conferences, providing services (even with a charity), and touring as an artist, actor or musician.
